FOODBLOG

This blog is a guide to all new (and old) citizens of Amsterdam that are looking for nice bites.

About this blog

We, hungry people, of DENISE united for one cause, and one cause only. Food.

As we are (almost) all non-natives in Amsterdam it was difficult for us all to navigate our way to the good and affordable food spots in town. To save you the hassle and make the persuit of satisfying your stomachs a little easier we created this website, sharing some of our favourite and affordable spots.

Reviews Menu

Anna, Amstelveen.

This is a restaurant/brewery in a converted church, serving brasserie style food and bar snacks. Depicted is the melanzane parmigiana which was really nice although not cheap at €18 and one of the most affordable dishes on the menu.

The restaurant is done out with a shabby chic interior which along with the 80s new wave music created a good atmosphere. Would recommend to anyone with an interest in beer and a taste for classic cooking.

Rossini Amsterdam.

This small Italian restaurant has easily the best Italian food in all of Amsterdam. I ordered the lasagne and they were exquisite at a price of €16.50. The prices are a bit high but it is worth it because the quality of the food is high at a fast serving rate. Rossini is a 9/10 restaurant.

9/10

Dunkin’ Donuts.

This is my favourite place to get donuts, they are pricey but they are worth it. However, everything else is far too expensive; a small Spa water bottle will cost €3.50. Despite that, they have a wide variety of donuts to choose from with a description of the ingredients for those that need to watch out for allergies. They also have milkshakes and coffees which I have never tried because they too are expensive. Overall I recommend this place if you want a good donut or two but be ready to spend 10 euros on 2 donuts and a water bottle.

8/10

Café Stevens.

My favorite food to get from this place is a cheeseburger with french fries, it is absolutely delicious. This café has a rock feel with great music and overall nice atmosphere. Coming here in spring with friends or family can make for a great outing and the food service is very fast. The prices range on the meal but it is the same you would pay for a cheeseburger anywhere.

10/10

Ganache.

This is one of the best places to get your chocolate in Amsterdam. I do not visit it often but I get them gifted to me very often and they have a high variety of choice. My favorite chocolates are definitely the hazelnut milk chocolate and the caramel one. The price varies based on the weight of the box but if you do not want the box and want something on the go, you can choose to get a small plastic bag which fits 3-6 chocolates. It can be a bit pricey but when you taste the chocolate it is 100% worth it. I definitely reccomend it.

Little Saigon.

This is definitely the best place for vietnamese in amsterdam. I go here maybe once every week or every other week. i always order the Pho which is amazing here, they also have good rice dishes like the braised pork with fried egg. The lemongrass iced tea is cheap and refreshing. Would definitely recommend this one.

10/10

Soju Bar.

We tried two flavors the first one was 6 pieces of honey butter and 6 pieces of “go to hell.” The go to hell flavor is a spicy chicken challenge and we wanted to take it on. At first we thought it wasn’t spicy but it was actually very spicy, so spicy that we couldn’t taste anything else. However we payed 20 euros for 12 pieces so we had to push through and finished it. The honey butter was very pleasant compared to such a spicy flavor. We also had the homemade iced tea which was one of the best we’ve tried around the city. Overall the place was very nicely decorated and the staff were very nice. The prices were okay and I would recommend as a nice place to go out for special occasion’s.

10/10

Dun Yong Kitchen.

This whole in the wall ramen place is one of the best in the city. It’s located on the 4th floor of the infamous Toko Dun Yong and is only open from 12-16. There’s very limited seating but luckily we got a seat. The menu was small but definitely enough to get something nice. We ordered the Tan Tan men and Miso ramen. We got a seat immediately and the food came shortly after even though there was only once chef and one sever. They were both very nice and i would definitely recommend this place. One of the best ramen places in amsterdam.
